Where to Watch the World Cup in DC

The world’s most popular sporting event, the World Cup, kicks off this week in Brazil. Scores of DC bars are opening early on weekdays for folks to take long lunches or sneak out of work, many with specials (you’ll likely had your fill of caipirinhas before the month is over) on food and drink from Thursday June 12th-Sunday July 13th. Matches will mostly be at noon, 3p & 6p everyday in group stage, with noon & 4p matches making up the knockout stage.

It’s well worth catching a game at one of the many bars listed below including soccer bar fixtures  (in DC, Lucky Bar, Fado Irish Pub & Biergarten HausSummers in Arlington), as well as other spots trying to capitalize on the World Cup’s popularity. Dupont will probably be most convenient for downtown folks, while many H Street bars are cross-promoting each other as they’ll be opening early. Recommended spots are bold and italicized This list will be updated as places announce their plans; some information came from the WCP, Washingtonian, DCist, Drink DC, Eater, DC Cool, 360 Washington, and two stories from the Post

Also, Barred in DC will be hosting a World Cup-themed 70 Metrobus Bar Tour on Saturday, June 21st, from 2:30-8p. Details here.
