Paste & Rind Cheese Co., which currently operates out a several farmers markets during the week, is taking over the Dio Wine Bar space at 904 H St. NE. The cheese shop, owned by Kara McGrath, confirmed to Barred in DC that they will plan to “open a retail artisan cheese counter and wine and cheese tasting bar” in the former Dio space, hopefully “early December.” McGrath, a 2013 University of Maryland graduate, managed and then co-owned Cheesemonster Studio in Brightwood Park (closed in March 2021) Paste & Rind started soon afterwards, and currently sets up shop at the Reagan Building, NoMa, and Petworth farmers market
News that Dio Wine Bar, the cozy natural wine bar at 9th and H NE, is not returning to its space. is likely not a surprise to many, but Barred in DC did not consider them officially a pandemic casualty as they last told Eater and DCist they still hoped to come back when they closed in June 2020 after 3 years.
[showing my work: ABRA posted online this week that they approved a transfer application to Paste & Wine. I then unsolicitedly sent their Instagram account a DM and as it happens half the time they confirmed it without telling me not to tell anyone.]
